FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police arrested 29-year-old Taren Adams for robbery with a firearm Monday, after allegedly attempting to rob a taxi cab driver at gunpoint.

The Checker Taxi driver told police he was in a parking lot near the intersection of Fowler St. and Hanson St. when Adams approached his vehicle. Adams asked how much a ride would cost, then pulled out a handgun and demanded the driver's money and electronics.

According to the police report, the driver handed Adams a dollar bill and then attempted to gather the items to give to the suspect. At that time, Adams threw the money back at the driver, saying he was "only joking" and proceeded to walk away.

Police located the suspect on the corner of Stella St. and Hanson St. Though Adams quickly ducked into an apartment and claimed to have been sleeping when officers knocked on his door, the cab driver positively identified him as the suspect. The owner of the home advised FMPD that Adams did not live at that residence.

Officers were not able to locate the firearm.
