FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Fort Myers Miracle baseball team and its employees fell victim to an insurance scam and are now looking to press charges.
Miracle employees discovered that the policy was cancelled in December of 2011 due to non payment when they were notified that their insurance was not covering their medical bills, according to police reports.
The insurance broker for the team has been collecting money, but has failed to pay the premiums on the account, and the money is unaccounted for. The suspect has been working as an insurance broker for seven years and is licensed in Florida, but moved to Missouri last year and is currently living and working there. When confronted about the issue, the suspect sent a check, which came back insufficient funds.
The broker works with two other baseball teams in addition to the Miracle; the St. Paul Saints and the Charkeston River Dogs. After working with insurance providers, all teams have re-instated full coverage for employees.
