LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Lee County Port Authority Police arrested 54-year-old Jerry Lee Soots after he was allegedly seen on surveillance video, cutting the cord of a vending machine at the Southwest Florida International Airport.
The corner of a Coca Cola machine was dented and the power cord to the food vending machine had been completely cut. A note was left on the machine that read, "Your piece of [expletive] machine has ripped me off again, but don't worry, I fixed it."
The damage to both machines was estimated at $250.
Soot was identified as the suspect from surveillance footage of the area. When he was contacted by authorities, Soot voluntarily admitted to the crime. He told authorities that he was trying to get a drink out of the machine when it took his money three times.
Soot said that he cut the cord on the vending machine after calling the number on the machine, but only reaching a recorded message.
The owner of the vending machine plans to prosecute.
