LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Two additional arrests have been made in an ongoing Lee County School District check fraud investigation. Shanice Anderson and Tabish Bellot have been added to the list accused of cashing counterfeit Lee County School District checks at a North Fort Myers Walmart.
Anderson, 18, and Bellot, 24,were arrested Thursday for the crime.
Diana Thar, 46, Roshonda Franklin, 20, and Ebony Powell, 23, were arrested Wednesday on the same charges. Tina Groff, 27, was also arrested in connection with the crime on Tuesday.
Detectives began an investigation after receiving a criminal complaint from Lee County School District in regards to several counterfeit checks that were being cashed at multiple locations in Lee County, according to a sheriff's office report.
The School District was notified by their banking institution that several subjects uttered counterfeit checks at various businesses in Lee County using the school district's payroll bank account number.
After obtaining certified copies of the counterfeit checks, it was determined that the checks were similar to the School District's authentic checks, although the names on the counterfeit checks were not names of Lee County School District employees.
The suspects were identified through video surveillance, due to the fact that they used their real identities on the counterfeit checks.
