PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a man Thursday who stole an air condenser and copper coils from a home in the 23300 block of Avocado Avenue in Port Charlotte. An alert neighbor got the license tag number and called CCSO. Thomas Clayton Fiedler, 46, was arrested for Burglary and Grand Theft
CCSO received a call from an alert neighbor Thursday at 3 p.m. who watches the home across the street while the owner is away, and observed a car parked in the driveway. The neighbor walked across the street, heard someone in the garage, and hid while he obtained the car’s license number. He said the man came out with air conditioner parts and a hammer, got into the small white car, and drive off. The neighbor ran to his home and called CCSO.
A deputy en route to the crime scene observed a small white car coming in the opposite direction on Kings Highway, made a U-turn, and confirmed the tag number the neighbor gave CCSO Dispatch; he then made a traffic stop. The deputy could see in plain view in the back seat there was an air condenser and coils. The witness positively identified Fiedler as the man he saw in the driveway of his neighbor’s home. Fiedler refused to talk to detectives stating he wanted his lawyer. He was then arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond due to prior felony convictions elsewhere in Florida.
