FORT MYERS, Fla.- On Thursday, the Fort Myers Police Department arrested 22-year-old Juana Herrera, of Lehigh Acres, and 18-year-old Cristobal Martinez, of Fort Myers, for robbing a woman of her purse and using her credit cards.
On Wednesday, FMPD received a call in reference to a robbery on Prospect Avenue. Upon arrival police learned the female victim was walking to her home when she was approached by some men in an SUV who asked her for directions. One of the men got out of the vehicle, demanded her purse and took the victim’s necklace. The suspects fled the scene. The victim provided police with a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle. Later that day, Officer Jimmy Hernandez stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the crime with Martinez and Herrera inside it. Further investigation led to the arrest of Martinez for an unrelated warrant. Herrera was released.
On Thursday, Detectives Jose Gomez and Dion Freeman obtained surveillance video of both Herrera and Martinez using the victim’s credit cards at two local stores. Detectives positively identified the suspects from the traffic stop on the previous day. Officers Gustavo Goncalves and Yanny Morales located Herrera and took him into custody without incident. Police arrested Herrera and Martinez for Robbery with a Firearm and Fraudulent use of a Credit Card.
