PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a 13-year-old boy Monday night for stealing a .380 caliber handgun from a neighbor’s home. The Port Charlotte boy was charged with Grand Theft of a Firearm.
Detectives received a call at 4:20 p.m. from a woman who lives near the juvenile and reported she was missing her handgun, iPod, charger and two necklaces. The 13-year-old and another boy were invited to her home last Saturday to swim in her pool with her son. She said she later discovered the items missing from her home.
Detectives learned that the boy had to use the bathroom inside the victim’s home, stole the gun and other items, took them to his home, hid them and returned to the pool. All of the stolen items except one necklace were recovered. The 13-year-old was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. He was then transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ft. Myers.
