FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police arrested 27-year-old Tomas Martinez on Sunday after he left four children, under 3 years of age, in an unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of Club Romance.
The children ranged in age from 8 months old to 3 years old. Three of the children belonged to the female owner of the Nissan Maxima that they were found in. The fourth child belonged to her twin sister. Both of the mothers arrived on the scene at Club Romance on Sunday and spoke with police. They told FMPD they had left the vehicle and the children in Martinez' care. Both were concerned for the safety of their children and were upset about what had happened.
Earlier in the night, officers expressed suspicion about a man who had keys and wanted to take the vehicle and the children home. He was later identified as Martinez and placed under arrest when it was determined that he had willfully failed to provide the children with adequate supervision.
Martinez eventually apologized under his breath after trying to convince the crying mothers not to cooperate with police. He faces child neglect charges.
