PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Port Charlotte man Thursday for pumping out his septic tank into the storm drain in front of his home at 2139 Bermuda Street. Rodolfo Alberto Burbano, 53, was charged with Littering Hazardous Environmental Waste.
A neighbor witnessed the illegal dumping and called CCSO. Deputies talked to Burbano who said he was having plumbing problems and could not afford having his septic tank pumped out by a licensed contractor. Deputies located a submersible pump and hose in Burbano’s back yard.
Charlotte County Fire was called to assess for any dangers with raw sewage being in the storm drain. Firemen determined it was a hazard and needed to be cleaned up. Charlotte County Utilities was called with a vacuum truck to clean the sewage out of the storm drain. A check of the other drains in the area did not have sewage that would have led into the Niagara Waterway. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was notified.
Burbano was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and then released on $2,500 bond.
