PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit detectives arrested a Port Charlotte man for stabbing a bicyclist Friday afternoon south of Punta Gorda. Armando Francisco Gomez, 19, of 23074 Rye Avenue was charged Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (a knife).
CCSO received a call at 1:37 p.m. after witnesses said a man was stabbed and lying in a driveway bleeding from several stab wounds at 2739 Taylor Road. Charlotte County EMS transported the 24 year old Punta Gorda man to Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers. Witnesses gave a description of the driver who was wearing a blue and black "Mr. Front Endwork" shirt. Witnesses also said the man was driving a small green car and obtained the license tag number of the car that fled the area after the stabbing. A BOLO was issued and deputies located the car parked in the CVS parking lot at U.S. 41 and Airport Road in Punta Gorda.
Deputies located Gomez and two of the witnesses came to the parking lot and positively identified him and his vehicle. CCSO Crime Scene technicians processed the 1996 Honda and located a bloody knife in the driver’s side door compartment; blood was found in several areas of the car.
Detectives met with the victim at the hospital who said he was riding his bicycle on Taylor Road when a man driving a little green car pulled up behind him. The driver stopped, words were exchanged and the man got out of the car with a knife. The man struck the victim in the right side of his chest, then the back of his head with the knife.
Detectives arrested Gomez who was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond.
