PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested two Port Charlotte boys Friday morning who broke into and stole items from a 93-year-old woman while she slept.
The boys were 14 and 16 years old.
CCSO received a call at 12:42 a.m. this morning when the elderly woman’s son arrived home and found it had been broken into and ransacked. A 42 inch television and a box with multiple savings bonds were stolen. The burglars forced open a rear window, cut the screen and entered.
Detectives learned that a neighbor boy had been coming around the home recently to play with children at the callers house. Detectives were shown the home on the 21000 block of Bassett Avenue and made contact with an occupant and who gave permission to enter.
Detectives located the 16-year-old and he denied being away from his home. A second bedroom was checked and detectives found shoes that matched the shoe prints at the crime scene.
The homeowner was contacted and gave permission to search for stolen items. Detectives found the stolen television covered up in a closet and a small wooden box.
Detectives learned that the 14-year-old was with the 16-year-old when they burglarized the home; they located the 14-year-old at school and brought him in for questioning.
