PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a homeless Port Charlotte man Monday for possessing eight child pornography photos and a child porno video on his cellphone.
Michael Joseph Ferris, 22, was arrested for Lewd and Lascivious Battery on Nov. 27, 2011 for having sex with a 12 year old girl at his campsite. Deputies observed Ferris exiting a wooded area off S.R. 776 by Cedarwood Street and Toledo Blade Boulevard, followed by two girls ages 11 and 12 coming out of the same wooded area. The girls told the deputy they were with Ferris and sleeping in his homeless camp.
The 12-year-old later said about two weeks before, she was very high on drugs, but remembers that the sex was consensual. She said her sister left the camp before they had sex that day.
Detectives and Ferris went back to his campsite and he signed a waiver of search for his cellphone. The cellphone was located and placed into evidence; it was then turned over the CCSO Computer Forensic Specialist after obtaining a search warrant to check the SD card. Detectives said eight photos of prepubescent nude girls and one video depicting a prepubescent girl were found. The girls posed to expose their sexual organs, or were involved in sexual performance.
Detectives charged Ferris with nine counts of Possessing or Promotion of Certain Images of Child Pornography. Ferris has been in the Charlotte County Jail on $100,000 bond since his arrest for Lewd or Lascivious Battery on the 12-year-old girl; Monday he was served notice of the nine new felony charges and remains in jail on no bond.
