HURRICANE CENTRAL - When it comes to getting complete insurance coverage for your home you need to do it now before a storm.
If Florida is under a hurricane watch or warning, it's likely too late to buy insurance. This applies to new applications or requests for an increase in coverage. So now is a good time to review your policy and talk to your insurance agent.
It's important to note, that flood insurance is usually written separately from homeowners insurance. Most homes here qualify for flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program. Contact your insurance agent for details and do it now because flood coverage usually involves a 30-day waiting period.
All your insurance documents should be together, ready to take with you if you need to evacuate. Other important documents you need to have include bank statements, tax returns, receipts and pictures of your home and its contents. If you have to make a claim, then you'll know exactly what you lost.
If you can, store all this information online, or on an easy-to-grab flash drive.
