SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. - High winds and rough seas didn't keep people from visiting Sanibel Island on Monday.  Locals and tourists from all over the world stopped and stared.

"This is awesome, I've never seen waves come up on the causeway here," said Jan Ayers.

Debbie Almeida used to live on the Island, "I moved into town and I miss the action of the storms.  I was here for Charley and it's really quite something to see what nature does."

Filmmaker and weather enthusiast, George Waters, was busy recording the phenomenon.

"I'm using this video to help document storms on Sanibel," he said.

A lovable Golden Retriever named Champ and his owner, Bill Gould, took a walk near the Lighthouse.

"Oh he loves the beach," said Gould.

Ann Burnip came to the island for her daughter's wedding.  She'll be heading back home to England after weathering the storm.

"We can go home to Durham, which is in the North and get similar kind of weather but not quite as fierce as this," she said.
