HURRICANE CENTRAL, Fla. - Every year we get updates on what the experts expect to see this hurricane season and this year may be less active than last.
After a very active 2011 hurricane season, this seasonal forecast is for near-average activity.
In fact, the Colorado State forecast team is now calling for a seasonal total of 13 tropical storms, five hurricanes, and two major hurricanes. That would be a near average season for Southwest Florida and the Atlantic basin.
A couple of reasons for that is it appears that sea surface temperatures in the basin are running a little cooler than average.
There is also a possibility of the re-emergence of El Nino later this season.
