HURRICANE CENTRAL - Get ready for an above average hurricane season this year because of a number of factors.
Even though the Pacific has warmed and we are no longer looking at a La Nina because it has ended, there are still a few overriding factors that lead the experts to predict an above average season.
First, the water is still warmer than average in the Gulf, Caribbean and Atlantic. Second, the air pressure measured over the central Atlantic is still lower than average. With those two factors combined, we are still calling for an above average season. So let's get ready for perhaps 16 tropical storms, 9 hurricanes and five major hurricanes in the 2011 hurricane season.
