TAMPA, Fla.- A heart-wrenching scene unfolded in Tampa Tuesday morning, as a mother manatee's body washed ashore on a flooded road.

Two babies were seen sticking close to the mother.

Wildlife officials say, the juveniles appeared old enough to survive on their own. The calves eventually swam away.

Officials will perform an necropsy on the mother.
