CLEWISTON, Fla.-On Wednesday morning, friends, teachers and family members of the Doberti Sanchez, 18, gathered at Clewiston High School to remember him.

Sanchez was killed on prom night in a hit-and-run accident over the weekend.

"I love him and I'm going to miss him," said Gloria Silva, who was in the car at the time of the accident.

The school's gym was filled with people who loved Sanchez. Rudy Garza worked with Sanchez for several years at a local recreation center, where Sanchez was a lifeguard.

"He cared about the kids and I enjoyed that. He was one of those persons that always helped the kids and that's why me and him got along so well," explained Garza.

Sanchez was going to attend the fire academy in August. Friends say it was his dream to be a firefighter.

After the service, Hendry County firefighters carried his body on their truck to the cemetery as a way to honor him.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Clewiston Police Department.
