COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - His nurses call him a miracle. The 5-year-old boy hit by an ATV less than three weeks ago is now recovering at home. His parents speak exclusively to WINK News how their son went from coma to recovery in just 18 days.
Jake Gelormine suffered a broken femur, arm, pelvis, an eye injury and skull fracture after he was truck by an ATV. Jake was fishing with his dad when two other kids lost control of the vehicle.
To see the boy now, compared to a picture of him in his hospital bed in a coma, you would never know it was the same person. His mom, Tammy Gelormine, tells us there was a point when he first was taken to Tampa General, that they didn't know if they'd be able to bring him home.
Although there's a long recovery ahead, doctors believe Jake will be able to use his leg again in his favorite sport, soccer.
