NORTH PORT, Fla.- UPDATE: Crime Stoppers of Sarasota County are offering a $1,000 cash reqard for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of this crime.

Officers of the North Port Police Department responded to a home in North Port, Fla. in reference to a shooting at approximately 10:15 p.m.

On arrival, officers found Kenneth Ellis, 61, on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Ellis was rushed to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in North Port where he was pronounced deceased. 

Ellis' wife was home at the time of the shooting and reported that the door bell rang and no one was seen outside. When Mr. Ellis opened the door, he was shot and two unknown subjects wearing all dark and masks ran from the area. 

Neighbors reported that a dark colored four-door sedan was seen leaving the area. 

According to Mrs. Ellis, nothing was said between the perpetrators and her husband.

Ellis was a teacher  at the Manatee School for the Arts. 

The case is under investigation and more information will be released as soon as it is available.
