NAPLES, Fla.- A 5-year-old boy was critically injured when an all-terrain vehicle driven by another child went out of control and hit him.

Officials say the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Monday in a Naples neighborhood.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Jake Gelormine was taken to a Tampa hospital. Two other boys, including the 12-year-old driver, were treated for minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol reports indicate the 12-year-old was trying to secure a 6-year-old passenger, who was seated in front of him, when the ATV struck a rock and the boys were thrown from the vehicle. The ATV then ran over a small fence, hit a palm tree and continued off an embankment, where it hit Gelormine.

Trooper say charges are pending.
