BOKEELIA, FL- A Bokeelia community is baffled after a lawn decoration weighing more than a ton vanishes in the night.

Neighbor Reed Hieatzman says, "I don't know how anybody could get it out of there without making a lot of racket ."

According to deputies, someone did dragging the 3 thousand pound boat propeller, identical to this one,  from right here and then whisking it away.

"You can see where one blade was, the other blade, and it sat this tall."

Hieatzman says the propeller shown here in this picture from google maps stood about 6 feet tall and was a community fixture for several years.

"It was nice, everybody stopped and looked at it like, nice, how much is that thing worth? I've never seen a propeller that big?"

Despite it's size and weight, no one saw or heard the big brass propeller being taken away. Neighbors think thieves plan to scrap it.
The owner , who is out of town today,  estimates the propeller to be worth around $6000 and he wants it back.

"It's just this day and age and this economy, you've got to expect things like that. It's sad but that's the way it is."
