NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- An investigation is underway at the Lee County Fair. Last night, one worker died and another suffered serious injuries while tearing down rides.
"He (the guy who died) was tearing something on the top and he touched the ground wire and the electric wasn't off or something and he had a heart attack," said Nicholas Planas, who was working at the fair when the two incidents happened.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office isn't commenting on why the 40-year-old man died until autopsy results came back from the lab.
Reithoffer Shows, the company in charged of the rides at the fair, said, "Although the investigation is still ongoing, there is no indication his death was caused by the amusement ride."
Meanwhile, Jonathan Haycook, 21, is undergoing surgery for his injuries.
"He was uncapping a cart for the ride and it let loose and fell on it's head, broke his arm, and it did some damage to his arm and head," said Robert Haycook, Jonathan's father.
Haycook is expected to make a full recovery.
