COLLIER COUNTY - Update: This problem has been corrected. Services have been restored.
A fiber optic break is causing a disruption to some phone services including 911 systems around Southwest Florida, including Collier County.
The fiber optic break, or cut, at a location in Lakeland is affecting various carriers used throughout Collier County , including the city of Naples.
The problem is sporadic, and not everyone who calls 911 will encounter a problem.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Naples Police Department say there is no reason to panic and urge people not to test call 911.
Anyone in Collier County who needs emergency service is advised to call 911. Callers can also reach 911 by calling the Collier County Sheriff’s Office administrative line at 239.252.9300. If callers are unable to connect to 911 or the administrative line, they should call one of these cell phone numbers: 239.253.9132; 239.253.2837; 239.253.8431; 239.253.1957; 239.253.1142; 239.253.2920.
If phone contact is unsuccessful, persons are advised to call or go to the nearest Collier County sheriff’s substation, where deputies will be available to assist.
