FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Hundreds of students from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Sarasota and Manatee counties competed in the SkillsUSA regional competition Wednesday.
The competition at High Tech Central in Fort Myers included over 35 events in a variety of categories.
Student were scored on written tests, then put what they've learned to use in categories like cosmetology, auto repair, video production, crime scene investigation, plumbing and nursing.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industries working together to ensure our country has a skilled workforce in the future.
Winners go on to the state competition in April.
Those who win at the state level will represent Florida at the national competition this summer. Prizes there include scholarships and possible job opportunities.
