CAPE CORAL, FL - Cape Coral's city manager, Gary King says he plans to break up the city's largest department, public works. Connie Barron, city spokesperson, says when departments get too large it is hard for them to remain efficient. She says when King took office he promised to examine the city's government from top to bottom to find where departments could be more cost effective. Now King believes public works would be more efficient being split into 3 separate departments. Utilites will come first. Adding a new utilities manager and at the same time eliminating unfilled positions. The move has support from councilman Bill Deile. Before a new department can be created, it must be voted on and approved by city council.
