PORT CHARLOTTE- Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives continue their investigation this morning of a shooting death Monday in Port Charlotte. CCSO received a call at 5:45 p.m. from a resident who said she heard multiple gunshots in the area of Leona St. The caller said she also observed a fleeing vehicle driving toward Liddy St.

Another resident in the area said he observed a black male across the street with an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives, deputies, K9, CID, and the aviation helicopter responded. EMS arrived, stabilized, and the man was then flown to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center. MCU detectives said Prinis Maurice Battle, 27, of Fort Myers, died later at the hospital.
