YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea (AP) - North Korea is condemning U.S.-South Korean war games as a "pretext for aggression."
A U.S. supercarrier and a South Korean destroyer are taking part in the exercises in the Yellow Sea, and South Korean soldiers are preparing for an amphibious drill. The show of force comes days after a North Korean artillery attack that killed four South Koreans.
North Korea says it will be "merciless" if U.S.-South Korean military exercises get too close to its territory.
Sen. John McCain says China is the key to preventing conflict on the Korean peninsula. He tells CNN China could "bring the North Korean economy to its knees" if it wanted to, but so far has done little to restrain its ally. McCain says it's time for China to play a responsible role on the world stage and rein in Pyongyang.
