MORENCI, Mich. (AP) - Southern Michigan authorities are searching for three young brothers reported missing after their father failed to turn them over to their mother and tried to kill himself.
Thirty-nine-year-old John Skelton of Morenci has told authorities he asked a female acquaintance to take his sons to his estranged wife before he tried to hang himself.
Police chief Larry Weeks says the boys were last seen Thursday and says investigators haven't been able to confirm the female acquaintance even exists.
The boys' father has been hospitalized in Ohio for mental health reasons.
Police say they fear 5-year-old Tanner, 7-year-old Alexander and 9-year-old Andrew are in great danger.
Their mother, Tanya Skelton, reported her sons missing Friday. The search continued Sunday.
Morenci is about 75 miles southwest of Detroit.
