LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The Sheriff's Office has a word of warning to residents across the county about a new phone scam aimed at stealing your voice.
Fraud investigators are seeing an increase in the number of people reporting someone calling their home and cell phones and asking a series of question.
Many require a yes or no answer.
The scheme involves using your recorded answers to make various types of purchases on automated systems including your cell phone provider, banks and even credit card companies.
The State Attorney General's office says they have received a number of complaints in recent months, but that residents are doing a good enough job catching on to the scheme early and hanging up before notifying authorities.
