HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) - Hurricane Igor is weakening as it approaches Bermuda, but the island is already being battered.
Bermuda's public safety minister says Igor is looking like it will be a "long and punishing" storm.
Top winds have dropped to 75 mph, but forecasters say it bring up to nine inches of rain to Bermuda and cause significant coastal flooding.
The eye is expected to pass over or very close to Bermuda late tonight or early tomorrow. Bermuda's power utility says nearly 20,000 customers are without electricity. The British territory has a population of 68,000.
