LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A motion passed to take the Colonial flyover off the needs list. That means the project will go back to commissioners to then make a final vote.
The controversial Colonial Boulevard flyover project might meet it's an end today. It's possible the Metropolitan Planning Commission could vote to kill the proposed roadway for good.
Lee County Commissioner Frank Mann says, "I don't see any sentiment to go ahead with this Colonial Expressway, any part of it.
The $300 million project's been on hold for additional traffic studies to be completed. Supporters say the express toll way will speed up traffic between Cape Coral and I-75.
Opponents are convinced it ruin their business as customers drive right by without having to stop. "You can't build a destructive roadway like this expressway," Pamela Templeton says, "it would devastate the business community."
