PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A two-year-old boy was run over by a pick-up truck in Punta Gorda Wednesday evening.

WINK News spoke with the toddler's father who was driving the vehicle when it accidentally backed over the little boy.

Ron Scribner said he was moving his pick-up in the driveway and didn't notice his son was still outside. When he realized what happened, he dialed 911 but got disconnected twice. So he jumped in his car to meet the ambulance halfway despite the advice of dispatchers.

"They had asked me to stay put, that the ambulance was coming, but I wasn't staying put. Every second mattered to me. I thought I was losing him."

Nathan Scribner is being treated at Tampa General Hospital. Doctors said he doesn't need surgery for his rib injuries and tests show his spine and heart are in good shape. He is still heavily sedated.
