FORT MYERS, Fla. - Police in Philadelphia are upset a man with a lengthy criminal record was able to get a gun permit from Florida.
The 28 year old suspect was arrested over the weekend and charged in the shooting death of a teen. Investigators say the gunman had a concealed weapons permit from Florida several years after the city of Philadelphia revoked theirs.
"There is a number of loop holes", said Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner William Blackburn.
Authorities in the city, however, admit they did not report the suspects criminal past to the F.B.I. which could have prevented him from obtaining a permit.
The Pennsylvania legislature is now debating whether residents can only get permits from local police agencies and not other states.
