CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Charlotte County Major Crimes Unit detectives continue their investigation concerning a body found about 11 .a.m. this morning in a canal in the area of Prineville St. and Cordoba Ave. in Port Charlotte.
Due to the condition of the body detectives say it may be that of a male, and the body could have been in the canal a couple days, but all that still needs to be determined. CCSO detectives, Forensics, Crime Scene, Dive Team, along with officers from FWC and Nuisance Alligator Trappers were on scene. The body was removed from the canal about 3:30 p.m. and transported to the Charlotte County Medical Examiner’s Office in Murdock for an autopsy.
Meanwhile detectives are looking at Missing Persons records and are still searching the numerous vagrant/homeless camps located in that area to see if someone may know of someone missing that could possibly lead to identification of the body in the canal.
