KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Separate attacks in southern Afghanistan have killed three NATO troops, including an American.
The deaths came as the international coalition announced Afghan troops and a Marine special operations team have moved this week into part of a northwestern province under insurgent control for two years. Security had been deteriorating there in part because of a lack of government or coalition forces.
Meantime, NATO troops says more than 20 insurgent fighters have been killed as the coalition joins Afghan troops in ramping up operations in eastern Afghanistan against an al-Qaida-linked Taliban. NATO says the Haqqani network has been behind several attacks in Kabul.
