CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The driver of a 2000 Chevrolet faces 21 counts of DUI Property Damage after he allegedly took out numerous mailboxes while traveling along SE 11th Avenue and SE 21st Terrace. Daniel E. Jazwiecki (DOB: 10/10/1960) was charged with damaging at least seven mailboxes in the 2100 block of SE 11th Avenue and 12 mailboxes in 1100 – 1400 block of SE 21st Terrace.
At 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Cape Coral Police Officer Joseph Wayland observed a silver Chevrolet truck driven by Jazwiecki on SE 11th Avenue leave the roadway several times and strike numerous mailboxes. Jazwiecki then turned onto SE 21st Terrace and continue driving off the roadway and striking mailboxes. The truck then struck the back of a Hyundai, and pulled into a residential driveway and ran into the home at 1432 SE 21st Terrace. Jazwiecki put the vehicle into reverse, backed into a Toyota Cruiser and finally came to a stop after striking the Toyota and a portable toilet. A neighbor who observed the suspect’s driving pattern ran to the truck, turned off the vehicle and took the keys.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, which are indicative of a person under the influence, Officer Wayland arrested and charged Jazwiecki with Driving under the Influence as well as the numerous property damage charges.
