FORT MYERS, Fla. - Police say a 19 year-old man will face charges in a shooting that sent an infant to the hospital.
Police say Felipe Escalante accidentally shot the child while handling the gun inside a home on Wright Street on Saturday afternoon. The baby was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery. The child's mother says she was told the next 24 hours would be critical to the child's recovery.
Escalante is expected to face charges of aggravated child neglect. Police say he was taken to receive medical care as well, due to a pre-existing condition. Officers say the charges will be filed once he received the medical care he needs.
