FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers police arrest a man accused of ramming a marked patrol car and leading officers on a chase.
Police say Erving Toombs faces charges of driving without a license, felony fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, tag not assigned and failing to register a motor vehicle.
Officers say the incident began Friday night when police attempted to stop a driver, later identified as Toombs, on Hunter Terrace. As an officer approached the car, police say Toombs put his car in reverse and rammed the parked patrol vehicle with an officer still inside. Police say Toombs then took off from the scene. Stop sticks were used to damage the vehicle's tires, but officers say the driver continued for several blocks before coming to a stop on Palm Beach Boulevard and surrendering to police.
