Cape Coral, FL- Two different fundraisers will be held Saturday, July 31st, to raise money for a Cape Coral soldier who suffered life-threatening injuries in an explosion overseas.
Private First Class Corey Kent lost both of his legs and some fingers when a roadside bomb went off in Afghanistan. He's still recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. Already, Kent has been awarded a Purple Heart.
On Monday, Cape Coral City Councilors agreed to send Councilman Bill Deile up to Washington to personally thank Private Kent for his service and sacrifice.
A new fund is set up, called the Corey Kent Fund, at Sun Trust Bank on Del Prado in Cape Coral. Anyone can donate.
There are also two different events tomorrow, Saturday, July 31st, to raise money for Kent.
One, is a "Beef and Burgundy dinner" hosted by the VFW. It'll be held from two to six pm at the Harney Point VFW on Southeast 11th Place in the Cape.
There will also be a barbecue from ten am to six pm at Sam's Club to raise money for Kent. That store is located on Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers.
Corey Kent is just 22 years old. He spent his birthday on Wednesday in the hospital.
