CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Police officers are working with parents to help keep their kids out of trouble. The J-Crimes unit focuses on mentoring, monitoring, and enforcing the law.
The goal of this unit is to focus on kids already on probation and keep them out of trouble.
Officer Ryan Tronchet is one of 12 Cape Coral police officer who help with the J-Crimes unit in addition to their regular duties. He said the beauty of the program is showing kids they are being watched. More importantly, it allows police officers to foster a strong relationship with the kids. Eventually, the officers hope the kids will come to trust them and abide by the law.
Other law enforcement agencies in the county have similar programs and claim it is a success.
