CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla - The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and Board of County Commissioners unveiled the newly expanded jail Friday.

The Charlotte County Jail increased from 528 beds to almost 1,000 beds.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Cameron said, “I’m proud to be sheriff of this county. We run the top jail in the state of Florida; our staff is second to none.” Sheriff Cameron then gave credit to Jail Commander Major Tom Rogers and his staff. The Sheriff then honored his predecessor Sheriff John Davenport saying, “There is not one person who committed more to the jail and set the stage for correction standards in the state of Florida. I personally invited Sheriff Davenport to attend today but he is out of state. I’m very proud of this new facility."
