Cape Coral, Fla - The housing market in Cape Coral seems to be making a turn for the better.
Three months ago Celebration Cape broke ground.
Carol Smith is looking to buy a home there.
"I was interesting in down sizing," she said.
Her most interesting option is Celebration Cape.
"This seems like something we can handle. Really the only thing we could find is foreclosures and a lot of them were junk. We don't want to put in a lot of money after we buy it," she said.
Celebration Cape is a new housing development.
It offers custom built homes for prices starting around $135,000 dollars.
That's a price Carol can celebrate.
"We don't want the house payment we have now," she said.
Craig Young is sales manager at Celebration Cape.
He says since they broke ground three months ago there's been a lot of interest.
"We've still steadily have had traffic surprisingly even after season," he said.
So far six properties are in development.
In two weeks, construction on the very first home will begin.
"To finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, some positive things. Instead of always talking about foreclosures," Young said.
While many people are snatching up foreclosures at lower price, Craig says his home buyers are getting the better bargain.
"New construction becomes a better alternative. It's more energy efficient. Your overall maintenance costs are going down," he said.
Celebration Cape can hold up to 57 homes, Craig says seeing local people spending money on new homes is something everyone can celebrate.
"Things are happening. It's not the gloom and doom out there," he said.
Realtors say other new developments in Cape Coral are also filling up signaling a positive change in the housing market.
