FORT MYERS, Fla- The Lee County Commission set the maximum millage rate on Tuesday, giving taxpayers their first idea of how much they might have to pay when tax bills arrive in November.
Commissioners set the maximum millage rate for Lee county at $4.28 per thousand. That is the maximum amount they can set it, but they won't actually decide on a final rate until later this year. They can decide to reduce the millage, although in such a tight budget year it is unclear whether that will be possible.
At a millage rate of $4.31, homeowners would see a tax bill increase of about $70 for every $100,000 in value.
Tax rates take effect on October 1st.
