FORT MYERS, Fla - Friday afternoon at 2:07 the Fort Myers Police Department received a call in reference to a Hit and Run in the Edison Mall parking lot located at 4125 Cleveland Avenue.
Police responded to the scene and learned the crash stemmed from a shoplifting incident. A woman accompanied by a young child was in Sears when loss prevention security spotted the adult stealing undergarments.
The security officer followed them out to the parking lot. The suspect got into a car to flee the scene. The security officer stepped out in front of the car and ordered them to stop, but instead the driver hit the gas hitting the security officer. He was thrown onto the hood of the car and then fell to the ground. The suspect got away.
The security officer was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Security cameras captured pictures of the suspect in the store as well as the car.
The car is described as a late 1990's gold Oldsmobile that is missing a right front hubcap.
