LEE COUNTY, Fla - Lee County School Board member Bob Chilmonik resigns to run for Lee County Commission.

Chilmonik read this statement to the media on Wednesday,

"I have a brief statement regarding my resignation from the Lee County School Board to run for county commission district seat one.  When the district one seat opened in March due to the untimely death of Bob Janes, it was my intention to finish out my school board term and apply for and run for that position.  However, due to unfortunate circumstances resulting from inaccurate information given to me and other candidates, I did not file a resign to run letter as required by law in time to avoid the current situation.  I believe that communication errors occurred between the State Elections office and our local elections office.  Due to time restraints of the qualifying week, I must now make the difficult decision today.  Unfortunately, that means today is the last day I can serve on the school board.  I would like to thank all the students, parents, teachers and citizens for their very heartwarming support over the past 7 years.  I will miss all of you and pray for your continued success."
