FORT MYERS, Fla. - Firefighters battle a blaze at Garden Street Iron and Metal that sent smoke high into the southwest Florida sky.
Fort Myers firefighters put out a fire at the business on Metro Parkway and Tara Lee Street at 5:20pm. Smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away.
The owner of the company says the fire caused minimal damage, and was contained to a small area of the facility. However, he says it is suspicious about how the fire started.
"It's just rare that it would catch on fire, some 28-hours after we had quit running the machine. Normally we would have a fire an hour after we shut the machine down," said Robert Weber, president of Garden Street Iron & Metal.
Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
