It's a popular household item sold at a major retailer, and now it's being cited as a risk to consumers. Is it in your home?
There's a major voluntary recall in place right now for a General Electric 12-cup Digital coffee maker. Walmart is recalling about 900,000 of the coffee makers due to the risk of it overheating. It's also considered a fire and burn hazard. The Consumer Safety Product Commission says there have been several reports of injuries and even a significant kitchen fire.
So far, Walmart has received 83 reports of overheating, smoking, melting, or burning. And 3 reports of minor burn injuries. The coffee maker has model number 169164 or 169165 and was sold in Walmart from March 2008 to January of 2010. The CPCS says consumers should stop using these coffee makers immediately and return it to Walmart for a full refund.
