Cape Coral citizens are lighting up their neighborhoods in blue this week to show support for the Cape Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies all over the nation. Monday kicks off National Police Week. To honor officers, the Cape’s Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association has been selling blue light bulbs for residents and businesses to display in windows.
National Police Week recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by President John F. Kennedy and a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
