DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Lotta Wahlin of Sweden shot a 6-under 66 Wednesday to take the clubhouse lead in the first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters.
The 28-year-old Wahlin sank a 26-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to sit one shot ahead of Becky Brewerton of Wales and four clear of American teen Lexi Thompson.
About half of the field of 108 golfers were still on the course, including American Michelle Wie.
Wahlin only returned to the European Tour full time this year after she was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2009. She has yet to earn a top 10 finish this season.
The 16-year-old Thompson birdied her final three holes to finish at 2 under.
